Product Description
The Allanson L307W3RGB12A is a 12V individually addressable RGB module built on LEDgen3 technology. Each module holds three LEDs and its own address, so a run does not just change color together — it chases, morphs and animates along its length. Three-quarters of an inch of housing depth and a 165° beam make it a genuinely shallow-letter module.
It is UL and CSA listed, IP67 rated, warrantied five years, and works with Allanson's SPI controllers and accessories.
Sold by the bag — 40 modules per bag, 5 bag minimum (200 modules). That is 80 feet of coverage at the standard layout density. Need a smaller quantity for a repair or a sample? Call us and we will work something out.
Why the 165° beam matters
Beam angle decides how shallow a letter you can light without hot-spotting. At 165° this module throws wide enough to fill a return at the shallow end of its range, which is where most retrofit and low-profile letter work lives.
Recommended depth: 2" to 6" (5cm to 15cm). Below 2" you risk seeing individual modules through the face; above 6" you start losing evenness and should tighten the spacing or step to a different product. Call us if the job falls outside that window.

Light output
| Channel | Wavelength | Efficacy | Lumens per module |
|---|---|---|---|
| Red | 620–625nm | 46.8 lm/W | 10.3 lm |
| Green | 520–530nm | 74.5 lm/W | 16.4 lm |
| Blue | 460–470nm | 21.4 lm/W | 4.7 lm |
| RGB combined | — | 46.9 lm/W | 30.5 lm |
Green carries most of the output and blue the least, which is normal for RGB emitters and worth knowing when a customer's brand color leans heavily blue. If the sign has to hold a saturated blue at high brightness, talk to us about module density before you quote it.
Power supply sizing
Allanson rates these supplies at 100 modules maximum per 60W output at full load, and recommends designing to 80% — which works out to 80 modules per 60W output. Design to the 80, not the 100. The difference is supply life, and in a Phoenix cabinet that runs 140°F in July, it is the difference that matters.
| Power supply | Output | Max modules | At recommended 80% |
|---|---|---|---|
| ACVN125-120-277V | 60W | 100 | 80 |
| ACV125-120-277V | 60W | 100 | 80 |
| ACV2125-120-277V | 120W (60 + 60) | 100 + 100 | 160 |
| ACV3125-120-277V | 180W (60 + 60 + 60) | 100 + 100 + 100 | 240 |
| CVW125-120-277V | 60W — IP68 | 100 | 80 |
| CVW2125-120-277V | 120W (60 + 60) — IP68 | 100 + 100 | 160 |
| CVW3125-120-277V | 180W (60 + 60 + 60) — IP68 | 100 + 100 + 100 | 240 |
Every supply in the family accepts 120–277V input, so the same part covers residential-voltage retrofits and 277V commercial panels. No separate SKU to stock or get wrong on the order.
For the 200-module minimum order, one ACV3125-120-277V is the clean answer. Its three 60W outputs take roughly 67 modules each, putting every output near 67% of rating — comfortably inside the recommended range with room to extend the sign later. One supply to mount instead of three, and one 120–277V connection.
The CVW series is IP68 rated, so those are the ones to reach for when the supply cannot be housed somewhere dry. The standard ACV supplies need to be inside the cabinet or a raceway.
Installation
- Peel and stick or screw mount. Both are supported — screws for anything that will see heat cycling or vibration.
- Watch the directional arrows. Addressable data flows one way through the chain. A module installed backwards breaks everything downstream of it, and finding it after the letters are closed up is a bad afternoon. Check the arrows as you go.
- Wiring is consistent on both ends: black V+, white V−, green G, blue D.
- Leads set the spacing at 5.31" between modules, giving an even run without measuring.
Where it fits
- Channel letters — especially shallow returns where a narrow-beam module would hot-spot
- Theatres, casinos and entertainment venues where the animation is part of the draw
- Architectural accent and cove runs needing motion across the length
- Tight spaces — at 1" across and 0.44" deep, it goes where larger modules will not
- Permitted commercial work — UL and CSA listings are on the module, not just the system
Custom programming
Allanson builds custom sequences from your artwork rather than leaving you with generic presets. Send us the vector files with the order and we will start that process — on an animated sign it is usually what separates a finished job from a strip of blinking lights.
Frequently asked questions
200 modules at 2.5 per foot is about 80 feet of run. Each additional bag of 40 adds roughly 16 feet.
100 at full load, but design to 80 per 60W output. The extra headroom is what keeps the supply alive through Arizona summers.
No. Every supply in this family runs on 120–277V input.
An Allanson SPI controller. Which one depends on module count, whether you need scheduling, and whether it has to tie into a larger DMX system. Tell us the job and we will match it.
The modules are IP67 and suited to cabinets, channel letters and exterior architectural use. They are not for submersion or direct prolonged water contact. For the power supply, use the IP68-rated CVW series if it cannot be housed somewhere dry.
2" to 6". The 165° beam is what makes the shallow end workable. Outside that range, call us before ordering.
