Product Description
The Allanson ColorMix RGB Addressable Bundle (ACLW-RGB AD-120) is the larger of the two addressable kits: 120 individually addressable RGB modules, two 12V power supplies, and one controller. Every module is independently addressable, so the run chases, fades and animates along its length rather than just changing color as a block.
At 2.5 modules per foot, 120 modules covers roughly 48 feet of letter or cabinet run — and it does it without sub-controllers. The addressing lives in the modules, so you wire the run instead of building a tree of sub-controllers and amplifiers behind it.
Why two power supplies matter
This is the first kit in the ColorMix line that ships with real electrical headroom, and it is worth understanding before you wire it.
| Modules included | 120 |
| Total load | 86.4W (120 x 0.72W) |
| Supplies included | 2 x 60W = 120W capacity |
| Max modules per supply | 80 |
| Recommended split | 60 modules per supply |
| Load at that split | 43.2W per supply — about 72% of capacity |
Split the modules evenly rather than filling the first supply. You can legally run 80 on one supply and 40 on the other, but that puts the first supply at 96% of rating while the second coasts at 48%. A 60/60 split leaves both at roughly 72%, which is the kind of margin that matters inside an Arizona sign cabinet in July. Same parts, same cost, longer service life.
What's in the box
- 120 addressable RGB modules — 12V DC, red/green/blue, 0.72W each, 110° beam angle
- 2 power supplies — 60W, 12V constant voltage
- 1 controller with programming capability for the addressable run
Which ColorMix kit does the job need?
| RGB3 Bundle | Addressable 80 | Addressable 120 (this kit) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Modules | 80 | 80 | 120 |
| Approx. coverage | 32 ft | 32 ft | 48 ft |
| Power supplies | 1 | 1 | 2 |
| Supply loading | 96% | 96% | 72% at a 60/60 split |
| Effect | Whole run one color at a time | Chases, waves, gradients | Chases, waves, gradients |
| Module width | 0.75" | 1.57" | 1.57" |
| Sub-controllers | Required to expand | Not required | Not required |
Check your letter returns before ordering. The addressable module is 1.57" wide against the standard RGB3 module's 0.75". Narrow strokes and tight returns that take an RGB3 module may not take this one. Measure the tightest letter on the job first.
Signal distance limits
Addressable modules carry data down the run, and data has a reach. Plan for it at layout, not at install:
- 60 ft maximum from the controller to the first module, and 60 ft between modules, using standard CAT5.
- 100 ft maximum on those same runs using Allanson signal cable (ACL-DMX-CBL-100), a UL Recognized shielded 3-wire cable.
- Beyond that, an SPI signal amplifier and splitter (ACL-SPI-SA) adds another 100 ft with Allanson cable or 60 ft with CAT5. Multiple amplifiers can be used.
On a 48 ft run the modules themselves sit inches apart, so the limit rarely bites between adjacent modules. Where it does bite is the jump from the controller to the first module, and any gap where the run crosses from one letter, cabinet or raceway to the next. Measure the actual cable path on those jumps, not the straight line.

Mounting and environment
The modules are IP67 rated and hold up to normal weather exposure inside a sign cabinet or channel letter.
- Not suitable for submerged applications.
- Not suitable for direct exposure to prolonged flowing or dripping water.
- The controller and power supplies are not weatherproof. Mount them inside the cabinet, in a raceway, or in a suitable enclosure — and remember this kit has two supplies to find room for, not one.
The -30°C to +60°C range covers Arizona summer cabinet temperatures and high-desert winter nights alike.
Custom programming
Allanson programs custom shows from your artwork. Send vector files and they will build the sequence for the specific sign, which is usually the difference between an animated sign that looks designed and one that looks like a preset cycling. We can start that process with you when you order.
Where it fits
- Larger channel letter sets and cabinets where 32 ft of coverage falls short
- Long border and accent runs that need motion across the full length
- Entertainment, retail and hospitality exteriors competing for attention on a busy street
- Multi-element signs where one controller should drive the whole composition in sync
Frequently asked questions
About 48 feet at the standard 2.5 modules per foot. Measure total letter perimeter or cabinet run to work out how many kits the job takes.
60 and 60. Both supplies then sit around 72% of rating with room to breathe. Filling one to 80 and leaving 40 on the other works electrically but runs the first supply at 96% for no benefit.
Depends on the run. This kit gives 48 ft on one controller. Two 80-module kits give 64 ft but on two separate controllers, which means two programs to keep in sync. For a single continuous composition, one controller is usually the better answer — call us with the layout.
There is headroom here that the smaller kits do not have. At a 60/60 split each supply has roughly 17W spare, which is about 23 more modules across the two circuits before you hit the 80-per-supply limit. Confirm the controller's capacity with us before you plan on it.
60 ft to the first module with CAT5, or 100 ft with Allanson signal cable. The same limits apply across any gap in the run. Signal amplifiers extend it from there.
Controller packages vary. Ask us to confirm what ships with your order before you quote the job, and we will add a remote if the customer wants a physical control.
