Product Description
The Allanson L315W6RGB24A is the high-output member of the LEDgen3 addressable family: six diodes per module, 24V, and 53.8 lumens of RGB per module. Each module carries its own address, so the run chases, morphs and animates along its length rather than changing color as a block.
The reason to reach for this one over the 3-diode module is not brightness per foot — it is parts count. At 1.5 modules per foot instead of 2.5, you are placing 40% fewer modules to light the same run.
6-diode 24V or 3-diode 12V?
Both modules put out a similar amount of light per foot. They differ in how you get there:
| L307W3RGB12A (3-diode, 12V) | L315W6RGB24A (this module) | |
|---|---|---|
| Diodes per module | 3 | 6 |
| Modules per foot | 2.5 | 1.5 fully stretched |
| Lumens per module (RGB) | 30.5 lm | 53.8 lm |
| Lumens per foot | about 76 lm | about 81 lm |
| Watts per foot | 1.5W | 2.16W |
| Efficacy (RGB) | 46.9 lm/W | 37.4 lm/W |
| Module size | 1" dia x 0.44" | 1.9" dia x 0.4" |
| Recommended depth | 2" to 6" | 3" to 8" |
| Bag quantity | 40 | 30 |
Choose the 6-diode 24V when
- The job is long and you want fewer modules to place and stick — labor is usually the bigger line item
- Letters are 3" to 8" deep, where this module's spread is designed to land
- You are running long circuits and want 24V's lower current and reduced voltage drop
Choose the 3-diode 12V when
- Returns are narrow — 1.9" across will not fit where 1" will
- Letters are shallow, down to 2"
- You want the more efficient module — 46.9 lm/W against 37.4 lm/W is a real gap on a large installation

Light output
| Channel | Wavelength | Efficacy | Lumens per module |
|---|---|---|---|
| Red | 620–625nm | 35.4 lm/W | 17.0 lm |
| Green | 520–530nm | 60.0 lm/W | 28.8 lm |
| Blue | 460–470nm | 16.7 lm/W | 8.0 lm |
| RGB combined | — | 37.4 lm/W | 53.8 lm |
Green carries most of the output and blue the least — normal for RGB emitters, but worth knowing when a customer's brand color leans heavily blue. At 8.0 lm per module on the blue channel, a sign that has to hold saturated blue at full brightness wants tighter module spacing than the standard layout. Ask us before you quote that job.
Power supply sizing
Allanson rates these supplies at 66 modules maximum per 96W output at full load, and recommends designing to 80% — which works out to about 53 modules per output, or roughly 35 feet of run.
| Power supply | Output | Max modules | At recommended 80% |
|---|---|---|---|
| CV244-120-277 | 96W | 66 | about 53 |
| CVW244-120-277 | 96W | 66 | about 53 |
| CVW2244-120-277 | 192W (96 + 96) | 66 + 66 | about 106 |
| CVW3244-120-277 | 288W (96 + 96 + 96) | 66 + 66 + 66 | about 159 |
Every supply in the family accepts 120–277V input, so one part number covers both residential-voltage retrofits and 277V commercial panels.
Design to the 80%, not the 66. The 66-module figure is the supply running flat out. Allanson's own recommendation is 80% loading, and inside an Arizona sign cabinet that hits 140°F in July, that margin is what keeps the supply out of your service schedule. Two bags of modules per 96W output is a clean rule of thumb: 60 modules is just under the ceiling and close to the recommendation.
Installation
- Peel and stick or screw mount. Both are supported — screws for anything that will see heat cycling or vibration.
- Watch the directional arrows. Addressable data flows one way through the chain. A module installed backwards kills everything downstream, and finding it after the letters are closed up is a bad afternoon. Check the arrows as you place each one.
- Wiring is the same on both ends: black V+, white V−, green G, blue D.
- Leads reach 7.6" between modules fully stretched. That is the maximum spacing — you can run them tighter for more light or more even coverage, but not further apart without splicing.
Where it fits
- Deeper channel letters and cabinets in the 3" to 8" range
- Long runs where placing 40% fewer modules meaningfully cuts install time
- Theatres, casinos and entertainment venues where the animation is part of the attraction
- Architectural and feature lighting that needs higher per-point output
- Permitted commercial work — UL and CSA listings are on the module itself
Custom programming
Allanson builds custom sequences from your artwork rather than leaving you with generic presets. Send us the vector files with the order and we will start that process — on an animated sign it is usually what separates a finished job from a strip of blinking lights.
Frequently asked questions
30 modules at 1.5 per foot is about 20 feet fully stretched. Tighter spacing gives more even light over a shorter run.
No. Different operating voltages mean separate circuits and separate power supplies. You can use both products on the same sign, but not on the same run.
66 at full load, but design to about 53 per 96W output. The headroom is what gets you through Arizona summers without a service call.
No. Every supply in this family runs on 120–277V input.
An Allanson SPI controller. Which one depends on module count, whether the customer needs scheduling, and whether it ties into a larger DMX system. Tell us the job and we will match it.
3" to 8". For shallower letters, the 3-diode 12V module is designed down to 2".
The modules are IP67 and suited to cabinets, channel letters and exterior architectural use. They are not for submersion or direct prolonged water contact. Ask us about weatherproof supply options if the power supply cannot be housed somewhere dry.
Ordering
Sold in bags of 30 modules.
