Product Description
The Allanson ColorMix RGB Addressable Bundle (ACLW-RGB AD-80) is a complete animated lighting kit: 80 individually addressable RGB modules, a 12V power supply sized to the full load, and a controller. Because every module is addressable, the run does more than change color together — it chases, fades and animates along the length of the sign.
At 2.5 modules per foot, 80 modules covers roughly 32 feet of letter or cabinet run, and it does it without sub-controllers. The addressing happens in the modules themselves, so you are wiring one run instead of a tree of sub-controllers and amplifiers.
Addressable vs. standard color changing
This is the distinction that decides which kit a job needs:
| RGB3 Bundle (ACLW-RGB3-80) | Addressable Bundle (this kit) | |
|---|---|---|
| Effect | Whole run is one color at a time | Each module set independently — chases, waves, gradients |
| Expansion | Sub-controllers and amplifiers | No sub-controllers required |
| Module width | 0.75" | 1.57" |
| Best for | Brand-color signs, seasonal color swaps | Motion, animation, attention-getting displays |
Check your letter returns before ordering. The addressable module is 1.57" wide against the standard RGB3 module's 0.75". Narrow strokes and tight returns that take an RGB3 module may not take this one. Measure the tightest letter on the job first.
What's in the box
- 80 addressable RGB modules — 12V DC, red/green/blue, 0.72W each, 110° beam angle
- 1 power supply — 60W, 12V constant voltage, sized to the full 80-module load
- 1 controller with programming capability for the addressable run
Sizing the job
| Modules included | 80 |
| Spacing | 2.5 modules per foot |
| Approximate run length | 32 ft |
| Total load | 57.6W (80 x 0.72W) |
| Supply capacity | 60W |
The supply is fully loaded at 80 modules. 57.6W against a 60W supply leaves no headroom — do not add modules to this circuit. Longer runs need additional supplies, and past a point, signal amplification. Call us with the footage and we will lay it out.
Signal distance limits
Addressable modules carry data down the run, and data has a reach. Plan for it at layout, not at install:
- 60 ft maximum from the controller to the first module, and 60 ft between modules, using standard CAT5.
- 100 ft maximum on those same runs when using Allanson signal cable (ACL-DMX-CBL-100), which is UL Recognized shielded 3-wire.
- Beyond that, an SPI signal amplifier and splitter (ACL-SPI-SA) adds another 100 ft with Allanson cable or 60 ft with CAT5. Multiple amplifiers can be used.
The controller does not have to sit next to the sign, but the distance from it to the first module counts against the same 60 ft. On a long raceway or a rooftop set, that budget goes faster than people expect — measure the actual cable path, not the straight line.

Mounting and environment
The modules are IP67 rated and hold up to normal weather exposure inside a sign cabinet or channel letter.
- Not suitable for submerged applications.
- Not suitable for direct exposure to prolonged flowing or dripping water.
- The controller and power supply are not weatherproof. Mount them inside the cabinet, in a raceway, or in a suitable enclosure.
The -30°C to +60°C range covers Arizona summer cabinet temperatures and high-desert winter nights alike.
Custom programming
Allanson programs custom shows from your artwork. Send vector files and they will build the sequence for the specific sign — which is usually the difference between an animated sign that looks designed and one that looks like a preset. We can start that process with you when you order.
Where it fits
- Channel letters and cabinets that need motion — chases, sweeps, color waves across the run
- Entertainment, retail and hospitality exteriors competing for attention on a busy street
- Border and accent runs where animation is the whole point
- Jobs that would otherwise need a rack of sub-controllers — the addressable system removes that layer
Frequently asked questions
About 32 feet at the standard 2.5 modules per foot. Measure your total letter perimeter or cabinet run to work out how many kits the job takes.
Addressable modules can each show a different color at the same time, so the sign can animate along its length. The RGB3 system changes the whole run together. Addressable also skips sub-controllers, but the modules are wider — 1.57" against 0.75" — so check your returns.
Not on this circuit. 80 modules already draws 57.6W against a 60W supply. Longer runs need additional supplies and, depending on the layout, signal amplification. Send us the footage and we will spec it.
60 ft to the first module with CAT5, or 100 ft with Allanson signal cable. The same limits apply between modules. Signal amplifiers extend it from there.
Controller packages vary. Ask us to confirm what ships with your order before you quote the job, and we will add a remote if the customer wants a physical control.
The modules are IP67 and fine in a cabinet or letter. The controller and power supply are not weatherproof and must be housed. Do not mount either where water can reach them.
