Product Description
The Allanson ACLW-RGB AD2 is a 12V individually addressable RGB module in a square die-cast housing. Each module carries its own address, so the run chases, morphs and animates along its length rather than changing color as a block. The semi-clad die-cast body is sealed with transparent epoxy, IP67 rated, cULus listed, and rated at 50,000 hours.
This is the module used in Allanson's ColorMix addressable bundle kits, which makes it the part to order when you are extending or servicing an existing ColorMix installation and need the light and the housing to match what is already in the sign.

How it compares to the LEDgen3 modules
We stock two generations of 12V addressable module. They are not interchangeable in appearance, so pick deliberately:
| ACLW-RGB AD2 (this module) | L307W3RGB12A | |
|---|---|---|
| Housing | Square die-cast, 2.00" x 1.57" | Round, 1" diameter |
| Beam angle | 110° | 165° |
| Power per module | 0.72W | 0.6W |
| Total lumens per module | 21 lm | 30.5 lm |
| Lumens per foot | about 53 lm | about 76 lm |
| Operating temperature | -30°C to 60°C | -40°C to 60°C |
| Modules per foot | 2.5 | 2.5 |
| Bag quantity | 40 | 40 |
Which one for a new job? The narrower 110° beam suits deeper returns where you want throw rather than spread, and the flat square housing with screw tabs sits solidly against a mounting board. For shallow letters and maximum light per watt, look at the L307W3RGB12A instead. If you are matching an existing ColorMix sign, order what is already in it — call us and we will confirm which that is.
Power supply sizing
Allanson rates 80 modules per 60W output for this module. Every supply in the family accepts 120–277V input, so one part covers residential-voltage retrofits and 277V commercial panels alike.
| Power supply | Output | Max modules |
|---|---|---|
| ACVN125-120-277V | 60W | 80 |
| ACV125-120-277V | 60W | 80 |
| ACV2125-120-277V | 120W (60 + 60) | 80 + 80 |
| ACV3125-120-277V | 180W (60 + 60 + 60) | 80 + 80 + 80 |
| CVW125-120-277V | 60W — IP68 | 80 |
| CVW2125-120-277V | 120W (60 + 60) — IP68 | 80 + 80 |
| CVW3125-120-277V | 180W (60 + 60 + 60) — IP68 | 80 + 80 + 80 |
Design below the maximum. 80 modules at 0.72W is 57.6W against a 60W output — 96% of rating, with nothing left over. Allanson's guidance elsewhere in the ColorMix line is to design supplies to 80% loading, which works out to about 66 modules per 60W output here. In a sign cabinet that hits 140°F in a Phoenix July, that margin is the difference between a supply that lasts and a return trip. Ask us to size the supply with the drawing rather than filling to the ceiling.
The CVW series is IP68 rated — use those when the supply cannot be housed somewhere dry. The standard ACV supplies belong inside the cabinet or a raceway.
Installation
Adhesive mounting
- Clean the surface first — it must be dust-free for the tape to hold.
- Peel the double-sided tape and press the module to the board.
- Use an adhesive with good thermal conductivity. Heat dissipation through the mounting surface is part of how these modules reach 50,000 hours.
- Keep adhesive off the LED lens — it costs you light directly.
Screw mounting
- Run the screw through the 0.14" mounting hole into the board.
- Do not over-torque. The die-cast housing will crack before the screw strips.
- Use correctly sized screws for the hole.
- Waterproof the installation holes. A screw through the mounting tab is a path past the IP67 seal — seal it or the rating stops meaning anything on that module.
Watch the directional arrow. Addressable data flows one way through the chain. A module installed backwards kills everything downstream of it, and finding it after the letters are closed up is a bad afternoon. The arrow is cast into the housing — check it as you place each module.
Light coverage
At a 110° beam, illumination spreads roughly as follows:
| Distance from module | Illuminance | Coverage diameter |
|---|---|---|
| 39.37" (1m) | 23.04 lx | 113.42" |
| 78.74" (2m) | 5.76 lx | 226.84" |
| 118.11" (3m) | 2.56 lx | 340.26" |
Useful for cabinet work where you need to know how far apart rows can sit before you see banding through the face.
Where it fits
- Channel letters and cabinet signs needing chase and animation effects
- Service and expansion of existing ColorMix installations — the matching module for signs already running AD2
- Theatres, casinos and entertainment venues where the animation is part of the draw
- Architectural accent work on flat mounting surfaces where the square die-cast housing sits well
- Permitted commercial work — the cULus listing is on the module itself
Controllers and programming
These modules run on Allanson's SPI controllers, including the ACL-MC-MP-V1 and ACL-WIFI-106. Which controller suits depends on module count, whether the customer needs scheduling, and whether the sign ties into a larger system — tell us the job and we will match it.
Allanson also builds custom sequences from your artwork rather than leaving you with generic presets. Send us the vector files with the order and we will start that process.
Frequently asked questions
40 modules at 2.5 per foot is about 16 feet.
Electrically both are 12V addressable, but they differ in beam angle and output, so a mixed run will show a visible difference in brightness and spread. Keep them on separate signs or separate faces. Call us if you are working out a transition on an existing installation.
Allanson rates 80 per 60W output. We recommend designing nearer 66 to leave thermal headroom — the cost difference is small and the failure mode is a service call.
No. Every supply in this family runs on 120–277V input.
It can. Allanson recommends waterproofing the installation holes when screw mounting. If the sign will see weather, seal them or use adhesive mounting instead.
One with good thermal conductivity. The mounting surface carries heat away from the module, and a thermally insulating adhesive shortens module life. Keep it off the lens.
