    Mactac states it plainly — PN628 is a permanent adhesive system, removal from drywall will most likely result in damage to the wall, and the product is not warranted for clean, undamaged removal. Expect to repair and repaint the wall afterward.

    If the graphic needs to come back off — a leased space, a seasonal campaign, a client who will change the artwork — you want Mactac IMAGin® ROODLE™ RO628 instead. Same face film, removable adhesive, rated up to 2 years of removability. The two product names are nearly identical, so double-check what's on your PO.

    Mactac IMAGin® PN628 Permanent Wall Noodle™ is a 6.0-mil matte white, semi-rigid calendered PVC film with a permanent acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive, built for indoor wall posters, murals, and graphics on smooth, flat drywall.

    The semi-rigid face carries enough body to hang flat on a wall without the curl and edge lift that thinner flexible media develops, and the matte surface kills glare under overhead lighting and photographs cleanly. Where PN628 differs from its removable sibling is the bond: peel adhesion builds from 3.4 lb/in at 30 minutes to 5.3 lb/in at 24 hours — roughly two and a half times the 24-hour figure of the removable version. That's a graphic that stays put.

    It prints on a wide range of systems: screen, HP Indigo, UV cured offset, solvent UV offset, UV inkjet, thermal transfer, eco-solvent, true solvent, latex, Canon UVgel 356, narrow web UV inkjet, and flexographic with an approved topcoat. Supplied on a 90# PE-coated kraft liner.

    The surface has to be smooth. PN628 is designed for smooth, flat drywall. Mactac specifically says to avoid textured surfaces — textured paints, wallpaper, stucco, and scrubbable paints. Across the Southwest, knockdown and orange-peel drywall texture is standard construction, which rules out a large share of interior walls. Run a hand over the wall before quoting. If you can feel texture, this is the wrong material.
    Mactac makes no wall-surface claims. Because interior walls, sealants, and paints vary so widely, Mactac makes no claim for successful application to or removal from painted wall surfaces — determining suitability for a given wall is the user's responsibility. Mactac's own recommendation, which we echo: build a test strip into every graphic so the end user can test their actual wall first.

    Class A Fire Rating

    PN628 meets ANSI, NFPA, and IFC Class A surface burning characteristics with a flame spread of 20 and smoke density of 160. For large-format interior wall coverings in commercial, educational, healthcare, and hospitality buildings, interior finish flame-spread classification is frequently the question a plan reviewer asks — having the rating is often what makes a large mural approvable.

    Printing Notes

    Ink Saturation Ceiling

    Maximum allowable ink saturation is 270%. Rich-black builds and deep shadow areas in mural artwork will exceed that fast if the profile isn't configured for it — check total ink coverage before committing to a long print.

    Pressroom Conditions

    Print in a conditioned space at approximately 73°F and 50% RH. Solvent-printed images must be thoroughly dry before rolling for shipment; retained solvent shows up later as edge adhesion failure on the wall.

    Lamination

    Laminate with Permacolor® ColorGard LUV Series or PromoGard where the graphic faces scratching, corrosive liquids, smoke, fumes, or heavily polluted air. Overlamination also slows the color fade that occurs over time with any inkjet print.

    Transport

    Roll finished graphics image out at a minimum 6" core diameter. If the print is unlaminated, make sure it is completely dry and bag it. Avoid extreme temperature and humidity swings in transit and storage.

    Installation

    1. Let it relax at least 90 minutes. Unroll the printed graphic and lay it flat at room temperature before installing. This is the step installers skip, and it shows up as panels that won't align.
    2. Confirm the wall is fully cured. Freshly painted walls need at least one week — longer if the paint manufacturer says so. With a permanent adhesive on uncured paint, you risk pulling the paint film itself.
    3. Clean with alcohol, then let moisture leave. Wipe the wall with a clean alcohol-saturated cloth. If heavy soil requires a damp cloth or cleaner first, allow a full additional 24 hours of drying — drywall absorbs and holds moisture.
    4. Don't install cold, damp, or near heat. Avoid cold or damp wall surfaces, and keep away from heaters, fireplaces, and radiators. Minimum application temperature is 50°F.
    5. Work top down, center out, in short liner pulls. Lay the panel face down, peel 2–5" of liner from the top and fold under. Position, lightly tack, then squeegee top down and center out. Pull another 6–10" of liner and repeat. Never let the adhesive touch itself — with a permanent system it will damage the graphic or the wall.
    6. Plan a 1" overlap on multi-panel murals, then re-squeegee every outer edge and seam at the end to guarantee contact.
    Position carefully. A permanent adhesive at 3.4 lb/in after only 30 minutes gives very little room to correct a misplaced panel. Measure the wall and the graphic before the liner comes off, and hinge large panels rather than trying to freehand them.

    If Removal Becomes Necessary

    An industrial heat gun to soften the adhesive will help. Start at a corner, pry the film up, and pull back at a 90° angle to put the least stress on the surface underneath, keeping the pull diagonal to the panel and moving slowly. Plan on drywall repair and repaint regardless — this is a permanent system and Mactac does not warrant clean removal.
