ORALUX 9300 is ORAFOL's 6-mil photoluminescent cast film: a multi-layered, cadmium-free PVC with an off-white gloss face that charges under ambient light and glows for hours when the lights go out. It's built for indoor safety and emergency exit signage — buildings, cruise ships and aircraft interiors — and cuts and applies like a heavy cast vinyl. Sold by the roll in 40" and 48" widths.

What ORALUX 9300 is for
ORAFOL positions 9300 for indoor safety and emergency exit signage in buildings, cruise ships and airplanes. In practice, sign shops use it for:
- Exit and directional signage that stays readable during a power failure
- Equipment marking — fire extinguishers, pull stations, first-aid cabinets, shutoffs
- Hazard and obstruction marking in unlit interior spaces
- Marine and aviation interiors, where low-location guidance is standard practice
- Back-of-house and utility areas — mechanical rooms, walk-in coolers, stairwell doors, generator rooms
- Screen-printed safety decals produced in volume
How the glow works
Photoluminescent film absorbs ambient light and re-emits it slowly in the dark. Two numbers describe that behavior, and ORAFOL publishes both for 9300 under DIN 67510: 2008-02.
- Luminous density — 23.0 mcd/m² at 10 minutes after charging, falling to 3.0 mcd/m² at 60 minutes. That's how bright it is at a given point after the lights go out.
- Decay time — 340 minutes. That's how long it remains visible in a fully dark space.
ORAFOL notes that 9300 is intended for indoor use and is charged by fluorescent lighting. The film needs regular ambient light exposure to work — it will not perform in a space that is dark most of the time, and it is not a substitute for emergency lighting.
Printing and finishing
Screen printing only. ORAFOL lists screen printing as the print compatibility for 9300; it is not specified as a digitally printable media. If you need to inkjet a glow-in-the-dark graphic, look at ORAFOL's printable photoluminescent film instead and call us for availability.
For cut graphics, transfer with an ORATAPE application tape:
- ORATAPE HT55 — paper
- ORATAPE MT72 — paper
- ORATAPE MT80P — clear conformable
- ORATAPE MT95 — clear conformable
At 6 mil this is a heavy film. Expect to slow your plotter down, increase blade force, and give yourself extra weeding time on fine detail relative to a 2-mil cast.
Installation notes
- Permanent adhesive. 4.1 lb/in on stainless after 24 hours — plan on this being a permanent install, not something you'll reposition or pull off cleanly later.
- Apply above 46°F on a surface cleaned of dust, grease and contamination.
- Let coatings cure. Freshly lacquered or painted surfaces need to be fully cured, and paint compatibility should be tested before application.
- Chemical resistance develops 72 hours after adhesion to aluminum — short-term resistance to most oils, greases, fuels, aliphatic solvents, weak acids, salts and alkalis at room temperature.
- Keep it clean. A dusty or filmed-over surface absorbs less charge and glows less. Include the graphics in routine cleaning.

How long does ORALUX 9300 glow?
ORAFOL publishes a decay time of 340 minutes — a little under six hours in a fully dark space. Brightness falls off through that window: 23.0 mcd/m² at 10 minutes and 3.0 mcd/m² at 60 minutes, measured per DIN 67510.
Does it meet code for exit path marking?
Not as a listed system. IBC/IFC luminous egress path marking provisions call for UL 1994-listed products or ASTM E2072 compliance under a specified test protocol, and ORAFOL publishes 9300's luminance under DIN 67510 without a UL 1994 listing. Use it for safety and exit signage; for a code-reviewed egress path marking system, specify a listed product.
Can I print it on my eco-solvent or UV printer?
ORAFOL lists screen printing as the print compatibility for 9300. It isn't specified as a digitally printable media.
Will it glow outdoors?
ORAFOL specifies 9300 for indoor use. It's rated at 5 years durability on vertical surfaces, but the product is intended for interior safety and exit signage.
Can I remove it later?
Plan on no. The adhesive is a permanent solvent-polyacrylate rated at 4.1 lb/in on stainless after 24 hours. Treat every install as permanent.
Does it need light to work?
Yes. Photoluminescent film stores ambient light and releases it in the dark, so it has to be charged by the room's normal lighting to perform. It won't work in a space that's dark most of the time, and it is not a replacement for emergency lighting.
What color is it in daylight?
Off-white with a gloss surface. The characteristic green glow only shows in the dark.
Will it cut on a standard plotter?
Yes, but it's a 6-mil cast film — roughly three times the thickness of a standard cast wrap vinyl. Slow the carriage, increase blade force, and test-cut before running a full sheet of fine detail.
