Product Description
ORAMASK 813 is ORAFOL's 3-mil rigid, translucent blue PVC stencil film, built for paint and stain masking on smooth, flat, rigid surfaces. The translucent blue face lets you see your substrate and your layout lines straight through the mask, and the low-tack water-based adhesive lifts off cleanly when the paint has set. Sold by the roll and stocked in Phoenix for next-day delivery across Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada and Colorado.
- 3-mil rigid PVC — cuts and weeds clean on plotters and craft cutters
- Translucent blue, matte finish — see your substrate through the mask for alignment
- Clear, water-based, low-tack removable adhesive — 1.37 lb/in on stainless after 24 hrs
- 84# silicone-coated paper liner
- ASTM E 84-07 Class "A" fire rating; self-extinguishing adhered to steel (DIN 75200)
- 50-yard rolls; 2-year shelf life at 68°F / 50% RH
What ORAMASK 813 is used for
ORAFOL developed 813 specifically for paint and stain stencil work — spray and brush techniques on smooth, flat, rigid substrates where you need to see the surface underneath the mask. Typical jobs:
- Gymnasium floor paint and stain masking — center-court logos, keys, lane lines, school lettering
- Painted drywall and accent walls — large-format lettering and murals
- Cabinets and millwork — stained or painted graphics and numbering
- Custom bag-toss (cornhole) game boards and other wood hobby builds
- Wooden home décor signage — the workhorse stencil film for the craft and sign market
- Shop and industrial stencils where the paint mask needs background visibility
ORAMASK 810 vs. 811 vs. 813 — which stencil film
ORAFOL builds three stencil films in the ORAMASK line. They are all 3-mil low-tack films; the difference is the surface they are meant to sit on and how much you can see through them.
| Film | Face | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| ORAMASK 810 | Translucent, conformable | Curved, uneven or semi-flexible surfaces where the mask has to follow a shape |
| ORAMASK 811 | Opaque white, rigid | Flat surfaces where you don't need to see through the mask |
| ORAMASK 813 | Translucent blue, rigid, matte | Smooth, flat, rigid surfaces where substrate visibility matters — floors, drywall, cabinets, wood signage |
Choose 813 when you are laying a stencil over an existing line, seam, tile joint or pencil layout and you need to see it through the film. Choose 811 when the surface is flat but you'd rather have an opaque mask. Choose 810 when the surface isn't flat.
Application tapes
For anything beyond a simple one-piece cut, transfer your weeded stencil with an ORATAPE application tape. ORAFOL specifies four for use with 813:
- ORATAPE HT55 — paper
- ORATAPE MT95 — clear conformable
- ORATAPE MT72 — semi-transparent conformable
- ORATAPE MT80P — transparent
How to get a clean edge
- Clean first. The surface has to be free of dust, grease and contamination — anything left behind affects adhesion and lets paint creep.
- Let existing coatings cure. Freshly lacquered or painted surfaces must be fully cured before you mask over them.
- Apply above 50°F. That is ORAFOL's minimum application temperature for this film.
- Test your paint system. Always run a test piece — the compatibility of a given lacquer, stain or paint with the film should be proven before the real job.
- Don't leave it on longer than you need to. Stencil films can leave adhesive residue on freshly painted or porous surfaces if left in place too long. Pull the mask as soon as the paint has set enough to hold its edge.

Frequently asked questions
Is ORAMASK 813 the same thing as ORACAL 813 Spray Mask?
Yes. ORAFOL's product name is ORAMASK 813 Stencil Film; the sign trade has called it ORACAL 813 Spray Mask for years and both names refer to the same translucent blue 3-mil film.
Can I cut ORAMASK 813 on a Cricut, Silhouette or desktop plotter?
Yes. It's a 3-mil rigid PVC film and cuts on plotters and craft cutters the same way standard sign vinyl does. As with any new material, run a test cut first and dial in blade depth and force for your machine.
Will it pull up my paint when I remove it?
813 uses a low-tack removable adhesive rated at 1.37 lb/in, which is why it's specified for masking rather than as a graphics film. That said, ORAFOL is explicit that stencil films can leave adhesive residue on freshly painted or porous surfaces if left in place too long, and that you should always test your painting process first.
Can I use it with water-based or latex paint?
The adhesive is water-based, and 813 is used with a wide range of paints and stains — but ORAFOL does not certify it against any specific paint chemistry, so test your system on a scrap piece before committing to the job.
Can I apply it wet, with application fluid?
No. ORAFOL specifies that 813 is not suitable for wet applications. Apply dry.
Does it work on brick, stucco or rough concrete?
813 is a rigid film built for smooth, flat, rigid substrates. On porous or textured surfaces you'll get paint bleed under the edge and a harder cleanup. For curved or uneven surfaces, look at the conformable ORAMASK 810 instead.
How long can I leave the stencil on?
Only as long as the job needs. Remove it as soon as the paint has set — leaving it on freshly painted or porous surfaces increases the chance of adhesive residue. If the paint has to be baked to cure, remove the film before it goes in the oven.
How should I store unused rolls?
Shelf life is 2 years at 68°F and 50% relative humidity. Store rolls suspended or standing on end, in original packaging, out of direct sun and away from heat.
